The best business plan is the used business plan and not having one is out of the question. All too often, business plans are tossed on the side to gather dust and sit until the next year when we need to come up with some goals. Now we all know that a dusty business plan is not what we need, but we still need to find easy ways to make it practical to use.
All parts of your business plan are important but the most important part of your plan is the financial portion. Keep a working copy (for those of us who just can't write in our pretty, bound copies) of this section handy at your desk at all times for quick reference. Review your financial goals as you plan out your daily, weekly, and monthly goals. As you accomplish your goals, make notes for your goals that lie ahead. Don't be afraid to write notes directly on your working copy.
Frame and post your business purposes and mission statements on your walls and just above your desk. Some of us are visual people. We need to see things in order to keep them in the forefront of our minds and you know how things work for us "out of sight; out of mind".
Your business plan should be a living, breathing thing that moves as your business moves. Your business plan is the key to your success and helps you to define where your business is at and where you are headed. Using your business plan will ensure that you reach your goals and propel your business towards success!
