Tips for booking a flight online

by MsRose

Remember to do a little research before you slap that card down and enter those digits.
Are you looking to save some money so you can come home with more souvenirs? Check out some of these sites to find great deals and cheap fares to get to and from your destination!

ONLINE SITES:
Cheaptickets
Lowestfares
Expedia
Travelocity
North/Southwest airlines
and more...
You may also check with major airlines for the occasional discounts and lower fares in off seasons or seasonal specials.

RESEARCH:
In all airlines, there are Black Out dates. Compare those with major airlines prior to booking your flight at a discounted site. Many discounted sites unfortunately overbook and you are left at the baggage entrance with no flight. This also can harm your already paid hotel and possible car rental. There could possibly be no refunds or changes available for those either if you have purchased a packaged deal for example.

Booking seats:
There is no guarantee you will get that window seat. Seating is chosen from primary airline buyers first. Discount site buyers get leftovers.
Paying a little extra for economy class (this is seating between first class and coach) and not knowing if the flight even has the option. Trust me, pay extra for that seating once you have arrived at the airport and know it is available. You may actually find the last minute upgrade extremely cheap!

Reading the Terms and Conditions:
Most discount sites do not offer a refund option.
You usually cannot change the date after booking or there is a large fee.
Added fees and taxes that may have to be paid only through the chosen airline and not on the discount site.
Find out what exactly you can bring aboard with you-You may have to call the primary airline for this information.
-Terms are subject to change through primary airlines and discount sites are not always up to date.

Read the Privacy Statement:
Make sure the site does not give your payment information to a third party.
They will have to give your name and specific details to the airline.

There are some excellent deals you can purchase at discounted sites. May your travels be cheap and you return home with heavy bags of souvenirs.
