Reflections: The Myspace Age

I find it amusing, that one day our generation would be telling our children about when we lived in the "My Space Age ". I remember terms like the "stone age", "the medieval times", and so many more, but I never ever once believed that something as trivial as a couple of social networking sites would revolutionize the way we view and live in the world today. Don't get me wrong, I am all for change , and I take pride in our generation being technologically forward. But I still puzzle over how we have become so powerful as to warrant billion dollar offers on our childlike stroke of genius ( hint hint facebook et al).

No matter how one would like to view it, Sites like MySpace have become a force to reckon with. they have brought existing music artists closer to their fans, given budding artists a new lease of life, and more importantly giving the Music Record Companies a huge run for their money; some popular musicians are already toying with the idea of going at it alone.

By the way, have you all realized how such social networking sites are quickly eliminating the middleman mentality that has accounted for huge savings for people like me. For example, through such tech-forward sites, I have gotten help with things as complex as completing an aerospace project, to things as simple as knowing what vitamin supplements are the best.

However, I wonder about the consequences of this dependence on the opinion of others. Don't we remember when our parents warned us to flee from peer pressure? Well, the myspace age is a peer pressure based culture. For example, we ask what others think about a movie, before we decide to see it, we have become so afraid of making our own decisions. I can tell you that I have had a blast watchings some movies that have been decried by others, or almost missed out on something wonderful that others have given their opinion as being worthless. Although this might just be few exceptions, I agree that the MySpace age has brought a lot of goodies, but only time would tell when its negative effects begins to catch up with us

Regardless, I especially get goosebumps when I think of all the huge deals the "MySpace age" has brought me. In what other age, can you find where to purchase designer shoes for less than $90, or a nice restaurant where everything is 5 bucks?Yeah, life is good!
