Lets revert back to the old saying: A penny saved is a penny earned! You cannot imagine how many things you could buy with all that loose change piling up in your home and even in your car.
Believe it or not, but just a few days ago, I bought some mini puzzles for my kids for 1c each! I go to the Dollar General and got a few household items. I had an extra couple bucks to spend and thought about getting something my children could use. I spotted some mini 24 piece puzzles for 35c and grabbed a few. I go up to the check out and they each rang up for 1 penny each! What a deal! I was so excited, I went back and bought a few more for my niece and nephews too!
I use pennies to teach my children how to count as well. I think it is important they learn how to count along with learning how to save and spend. Pennies are one option with young children.
Eliminating the penny just gives our government the option of raising prices and taxes by default. Instead of going to a store and seeing an item for $9.99, it is automatically $10.00. Now, where I live, our taxes are %6. That making an item that is $1 to $1.06. How can you get the correct change back if the penny is eliminated? This is simply something to consider. A business would have to arrange all of their prices according to tax and elimination of the penny. If the penny is eliminated, our government had better have a good layout for businesses and banks. I would still like the opportunity to take my pennies to the bank to save.
