The World Wide Web is amazing. I must say that it is, in my opinion, more entertaining and informative then Television. Why? Well... the variety is simply magnificent. The internet is a gamer's haven, a place for teaching resources, fantastic stories and tales, music, videos, and random things.
Let me go in depth into the depth of the Internet.
What is it you like?
Do you like to read? The Internet is chalk full of stories, poems, lyrics, reviews, articles, role plays, biographies, and rantings. Most usually they are free for you to view. And then there are e-books. AND, beyond that, resources for buying material books and mangas. Amazon & E-Bay for example; just two of many.
So you're a gamer. Well do you know how many free and paid versions of games the internet has? There's fun little arcade games to full blown MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Play Games). Some are fre... others require money to play. Must I mention the huge selection they have? You can play games as cute little chibi anime character, to characters from Feudal Japan. Or there's games like Heliattack, the Impossible Quiz, and such trivial little things that will amuse you for minutes or hours.
Perhaps you like to write? Well hey, Helium is just one example of a fun place for you to go. There's an endless supply of blogs, forums, places similar to Helium, sites looking to publish, e-magazines, forums dedicated to writing or Role Playing. There are numerous options for beginners and adept writers of all styles and genres.
If you want to find out how to make a dish or groom your pet all you have to do is use Google, Yahoo, Dog Pile, or some other search engine. There's Ask, and forums, and blogs, and sites galore that will teach you how to do something. Maybe you are seeking a new idea for hobbies. The internet will take care of that problem.
Say... you're a teenager, or adult, and social. Might I suggest blogs, Xanga, Myspace, Instant Messengers or even the chatrooms in which I detest. Forums provide fun ways to meet new people and safely discuss the things that interest you.
You need to research something for a report, look up directions, or you could just enjoy random information. In any case, the internet will provide useful. Learn about natural disasters, wars, history, how things work (whether in politics or a mechanical object) and so much more. The topics are just as endless as the internet is vast.
You can even shop online! The internet allows you to buy almost anything from almost anywhere! You can even get your groceries or a nice gift for a friend.
Sure, the T.V. has informative, educational purposes too. But the depth is not as near that of the World Wide Web.
However... such amazing things come with dangers. Sites dedicated to porn and hentai, dangerous people befriending unsuspecting teens and young adults on family sites, chatrooms full of vulgar languages and predators, scams, spam, and the worst of all... false information *kidding*.
Enter the World Wide Web, but not without some caution, and explore the vast lands of information, fun, and make a few friends along the way; all the while expanding your knowledge and honing certain skills. The possibilities are quite endless.
