ANGEL
I always wanted a guardian angel
but not this way.
Please bring her back to me
Dear Lord I pray.
I don't want her looking after me
I want her here to hold.
This is not the way I dreamed
the story would unfold.
In fact I wish this was a dream
please wake me now.
Please say it was a nightmare,
not true somehow.
I know my angel is with you Lord
please please send her down.
Let her embrace me one last time
let her love abound.
Please help us to remember
all that she has taught.
Please help us to be strong,
the way she would have fought.
Please Lord, help us to heal
like she would want us to.
And Lord
please help us
to understand.
Why our angel
is with you.

my first breath was liquid,
a gasping, choking thing, and then I cried,
loud
SUSTENANCE
Pearl Levine 1916-1987
Every winter morning you stepped out on the lawn
and spread seeds and crumbs for mourning
Don't believe the things you hear about that final breath.
As sure as you are reading this, there IS life after death!
