How forgiveness has healing power over depression

by Nevada

Created on: July 17, 2007

A person that is crippled by depression may also be suffering under the tremendous weight of the unforgiven. Whether this is their own doing or others that are doing it to them it can be devastating. Depression on its own brings with it many of its own symptoms, such as loneliness, isolation, substance abuse and suicide attempts. To add a mixture of unforgivingness is like adding rocks to an already overloaded backpack.

Forgiveness is a major key in unlocking many doors to a persons heart and soul. Locked away are scores of broken promises and hurtful moments in that persons life that they have hung on to for so long. They will find it very difficult at this depressed point in their life to forgive themselves for anything that they have done to others, or any guilt that they are hanging on to. They will find it hard to accept any forgiveness at this point as well. Therapy will help to unlock the door to open up the heart for acceptance,it may take some time for a depressed person to feel good enough to accept this.

Depression is a mental disorder and with the right medication and proper therapy, talking about forgiveness will give the individual the chance to release what has been bottled up for years and forgive themselves for once and let the past go. And they can finally focus on a positive future. Not continue to dwell on a negative past. Forgiveness is a healing tool,a strong positive approach to deal with issues of today, things at hand. Reality. Once a person has forgiven themselves completely they have the power to forgive others,to love others. This creates a totally different outlook on life, not a negative, depressed outlook. But a positive, creative, the world is a better place outlook. A different person has been created by the power of forgiveness. The healing of forgiveness. Sure they may suffer from depression, but it is not the same as before. They get down, and feel blue, but they can shine through it now. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. There was no light before, only darkness. Forgiveness brought light to the darkness.
