I think Mercedes is almost over the poisoned Chrysler thinking. It seemed like they forgot that hey are the one who invented the first practical. It seems below Mercedes to play the "me too, I wanna play game" with American big SUV's. Mercedes already has the G-Wagon with its tough off road reputation and an almost cult like following. And they already have the R series an almost cross over that seems very Mercedes like. But for them to build a truck like monster SUV just wasn't needed. Especially the way they did it.
Here's the OK it's a Mercedes part. It has an incredibly engineered suspension, here the non Mercedes part, although it rides smooth, it drives heavy. Mercedes part nice fit and finish, non Mercedes, plain kind of cabin with out very much Bling.
It give you a choice between something that seems Mercedes-ish and optional Blu-tech turbo diesel with mileage and greenness comparable with the best hybrid SUV's, or the standard not as Mercedes like 4.6 V-8 (yup, same size as the ford, but they are more Mercedes than to use that engine).
First of all, if they chose to do what they did, it should have been spectacular, and earlier in the game, second, the should have realized that they are the people to copy, not vice versa. Think about that silly Granada commercial from way back. I bet this will be a short run or very changed vehicle very soon, I hope they get over feeling like Johnny come lately and figure out that it is actually everyone else came after them.
In some thought of partial fairness, there are a few pretty good things to say about it and to balance that out for 50k for the base model, there should be more than a few if your price is almost 56 thousand. I look forward to reviewing the second generation, I bet it will be spectacular.
