What is an onesie?

There is a lot of terms used in reference to babies and their equiptment. Being a new mom you can be quite confused, especially if you have not been around children much, as to what you need and what you really don't need because it is a novelty. I know that when I became a mother at such a young age of 23 that I had never been around small children so I had no idea what things were. Like, what is a Boppy, snugli, or even what a onesie was. I am here to clue you in.

A onesie is a one piece outfit for babies. They are a blessing because they are so easy to put on, and so easy to change a diaper in. Both of my kids lived in onesies because they are so convenient. The best part about it is that they are so inexpensive. With the way that kids go through clothes with staining and stuff, there is no wonder why so many mothers put their kids in them.

A onesie is convenient because it has three snaps in the crotch so it is easy to change diapers. Since you will be changing your babies diaper 10+ times a day, this is essential. You do not want to spend hours a day dressing and redressing your baby, especially since babies do not like clothes going on and off in the first place. The snaps in the crotch are also great for keeping babies clothes in place. Because they do so much wiggling, if they are just wearing a shirt it will keep riding up. This will make your baby cold.

Onesies come in long and short sleeve. Unless you live in the desert and it is hot all the time, I recommend having at least one or two long sleeved onesies because even in the night time it does get a little chilly. Eventhough you are not cold, they are much smaller than you and can get cold very easily.

If you are planning to register at your local store for perhaps a baby shower, make sure you add these to your registry. You can never have enough and they are so convenient. Once you try them out you will realize that whoever created them is a genius. You can always find these at garage sales as virtually everyone uses them, but they are inexpensive enough that you can buy a pack for under $10. They are also flexible where it will leave your babies legs free to go, really nice when they get to the stage where they want to crawl. Pants are not as flexible so when they want to crawl, you can put a blanket down on the floor and let them move around in their onesie.
