Kwazulu A Herbalist/ Diviner
Okogot - Son to Mrs. Ogot
Amaogot Daughter to Mrs. Ogot

A disorganized sitting room, an untidy luggage is on top of the center table, which is the only item of visible importance in the room. A flutist is playing a joyful and sorrowful music respectively, and intermittently. A woman emerges from a door leading to the inner house. A look at her shows that she is worn out as a result of long distance travel, but despite this worn out look she displays a somewhat happy countenance. She kneels down in the center of the sitting room raising her hands upwards in supplication.

MRS OGOT: Our ancestors accept my prayer and
thanksgiving for bringing an end to this war
that has claimed the lives of our people.
Thank you (in a tearful voice) my ancestors
please bring back my two children, Okogot
and Amaogot. They are all I have in this world.
The war has eaten the head of my husband.
Please the great ones please bring back
my children, my life is meaningless without
them. Hei! This war has plastered bad times
on our faces. The times are really bad. War is

totally bad. (She gets up, carries the baggage
and makes to go into the room, a voice is
heard out side, singing and approaching the
house, 'War war war is good, is good, is
good..,'' the door is pushed open and a man
in his early thirties saunters in drunkenly, Mrs.
Ogot unconsciously drops the luggage on the
floor and rushes wildly at the Youngman who
is apparently her son Okogot.)
MRS. OKOGOT Okogot my son! My son!, Hei!, our
ancestors thank you for bringing my son back,
Okogot Okogot (She starts to
examine him thoroughly as if she is his private
physician, all of a sudden, Okogot who has
been standing like a statue, staring into
space,he pushes his mother rudely away,
and she falls down with a loud
shout. She is shocked beyond words.) Okogot
what is the meaning of this, chei! What
have they done to my son.. Oko..
OKOGOT: Sharraaapuuu Oya attention attention..

there at the war front suffering, while you

MRS OGOT: Okogot; who did this to you tell me my son,
