What is an onesie?

Imagine a tiny cloth bathing suit or leotard. This is what an Onsie is. They usually have snaps down near the diaper section of the baby. The snaps make them very convenient when it comes to diaper changes. Just unsnap the bottom section, change the baby, and snap back up.

An onsie is universal. They are made for both boys and girls. Obviously, you do not want to put a pink one on a boy. There are many different styles that you can choose from. You can buy your favorite cartoon character's design or just opt for a simple colored one. They come in many different styles and sizes, too. You can buy them with sleeves or without.

Onsies are a terrific investment. They don't cost a whole lot and you can reuse them time and again. Most department stores or baby outlets will have a good selection for you to choose from. You can buy them by the single or in packs of three. If you are a thrift shopper like me, you may want to check out local bargain bins, flea markets, and yard sales. You can get used clothes pretty cheap. Baby won't wear them very long anyhow.

In the summer time, you can just let your child wear an onsie over their diaper. It will be cool on them and it is technically a little baby outfit. The material is loose and lightweight and it will be comfortable for your baby. In the wintertime, you can use the onsie as layer. It will help to keep your child's chest warm and it goes well under most any outfits.

When your child grows out of them, you can take the gently used ones to your local thrift shop and sale them. In most cases, they may even let you trade them in for clothes that your baby can wear. You can use the ones that are in rougher shape as burp rags, dust rags for cleaning the house, or shop rags for dad to use out in the garage.

As you can see, onsies are a great addition to any baby wardrobe. Just buy one or two at first, if you have never tried them before. Let your baby wear them and decide whether or not you like them. If you do, you can always get more. I think that you will be hooked when you see just how simple they are.
