People love to watch football because...?

The question that lies before me, is why do people love to watch football? The question is brought up, as if there is some type of debate or competitive thinking about why the current NFL is now commonly referred to as "America's Game".

The initial response is one of very little deliberation. I mean, who wouldn't enjoy this sport? A 100 yard "battle field" full of strength stimulated, almost seemingly immortal at times, players that comprise their respected teams in order to accomplish one thing: to defeat and humble the other team, while moving on to accomplish the imminent goal of being the champion for that particular season. The big hits, the dazzling speed, the outrageous athleticism, and just the overall strategical significance of this remarkable spectacle sport. Although there are a lot of rules and little intricacies involved, the most simple minded of a fan can follow and enjoy the show. Because of that, and the overall speed of the game, it allows for families and friends to gather and follow in great earnest and interest, and at times angst (Esp. those Detroit,Cleveland, and Arizona friends).

Through further cogitation however, there is more appeals to the all inspiring eye(at least to the more dedicated fan). The glitz and glamor is enough to appeal to the casual fan, who are very important elements to the NFL's success, because it is something that the MLB, NHL, and etc. can't really deliver. However, among those types of fans, there is something much more special with the NFL. There are several different happenings that invoke and draw the rest of the NFL's crowd in. Since the inception of the free agency era, coupled with the salary cap, it gives hope to every NFL franchise and their respected cities, that on any given year they can make a deep run. Need proof? Just look at the Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars. They were both conceived in 1995, and in the following season they both made impressive runs in the playoffs. The Bengals of just a few years ago, were 2-14 and had the #1 pick in the 2003 draft. Three seasons later they became a prominent championship contender. Then possibly the most engaging story, would be that of this previous season's New Orleans Saints. In the 2006 off season, they picked up Pro Bowl QB Drew Brees, picked 2nd in the NFL Draft, and got a little known back named Reggie Bush(Heh) and in that same year made a run to the NFC Championship. The unpredictability, the optimism, and the overall parity of the NFL,
