Hello, and welcome to your guide to extreme skiing. To start off, I am a professional skier. When I say professional skier I mean that I can ski the greens all the way to the double black diamonds. I can also ski in powder and ungroomed terrain which is called Back-country skiing. When you learned to ski, you learned to do the "pizza" or "V" to stop or slow down. When you get into extreme skiing you have to slalom or go back and forth to slow down like when you see people spit snow at you. Also you need to have a backpack with you to carry your first aid kit and other safety items available at High Country or other retail carriers of brands such as North Face and Ozark. This is because when you get into Extreme Skiing you need different equipment and apparel than you do at a ski resort. The type of skis you need are called Fat Skis which are basically for Skiing in back-country powder. Width and shape varies. Side-cut is the relationship between the middle, top and bottom of the Ski. Medium side-cut Ski with a softer flex are easier to Ski on and therefore tend to be more popular. You also need the proper boots which are called Telemark Boots and you can adjust the stiffness according to where you are and your ski level. And lastly you definitely need ski poles to help keep your balance and for safety.
