Domestic Violence & Abuse

The domestic violence problem

We are women of many faces, women of all sizes and races. Women broken, battered and bruised....we are women who have been abused. You may not know us at first glance, but look closely.....there, in our eyes. The evidence is clear; the pain, the sorrow the constant tears.

Even in this day and age, this unimaginable crime is not a top priority. Not just in the political sense, but in our own families. When a woman who has been abused is belittled by family or friends, by the somewhat common remark of "how could you be so stupid", she shrinks in her already low self-esteem. She then chooses to crawl back into herself and is lost all over again. We need to change how we look at cruelty and how we support women of this kind of violence. The term "domestic violence" should be changed. It doesn't create enough stir or thought. It appears to have become too general a phrase.
