While I cannot statistically verify that teens are becoming less sexually active, as I have seen stats that seem to both confirm and deny that statement, I can certainly verify the growing strength of the abstinence movement. Many of the teens that I know have decided not to engage sexual activity until they are married. These are normal, average students who make that choice everyday. Some of them have boyfriends or girlfriends that would gladly do those things with them, and yet they resist. As they face schools that seem to push them the other way through activities such as handing out condemns and offering discussion groups on human sexuality. The schools I am referring to do little to offer an abstinence program, or any such thing that would offer an opposing point of view. I find it curious that we would teach kids so much about an activity that is such a legal grey area for them to participate in until they hit 18.
At any rate, what we do with our bodies is one of the most important choices any of us will ever make. I am thankful that at least some teens (and pre-teens) are responding to increasing pressures by thinking things through and making educated decisions.
