A guide to opening a successful home business

Over a time span of about 23 years, I have had quite a few successful home businesses. Some were simply to tide me over during hard times, some were to learn valuable lessons in business, still others were to learn new skills, and others were simply for something different to do when I was mainly being a stay-at-home mom.

These businesses have evolved from one to the next throughout the years, and have run the gamut from cleaning and babysitting, to baking home-made goods at Christmas-time for those who didn't have time to bake for themselves, to "Badge-a-Minute", to home-party plans, creating and selling artistic ceramic vases, sweepstaking, and more... presently, to the world of home-based internet, mail, and telephone businesses, which I truly do love, both for the level of personal freedom, and for the freedom of expression that they allow, along with having virtually unlimited income potential.

I found that in all of the previous businesses that I have been involved in, I was learning inherent skills which eventually propelled me into a home-based psychic healing business that I have been enjoying for the past six and a half years now, this being done mainly by telephone and online.

One thing that I have found most useful in creating success is to start with what you already know.

What do you know about that you could use in succeeding with your home business? What skills do you already have that would be assets in the type of business you would like to run? What do you know about the financial ins and outs of your chosen business? Who do you know that could already use what you have to offer?

If you are not sure what type of business you would like to have, what qualities are you looking for in a home business? What do you know about yourself that would make you WANT to get up in the morning and jump into what you are doing? Use what you know about yourself to make it enticing enough that you know you will love it.

If you have already made your choice as to what type of business you'd like to run, then it's time to take a look at your niche market.

For this, you can start with the people you know that could TRULY use what you have to offer. This is not about pushing anyone to accept your services just because they are your friend, this is about approaching those you already know when you know you have that which they already want, or already use and need. Once you have closed several successful business deals with those you already know, it will be much easier
