Clipping coupons alone are not worth it. Many times, the off brand of a product that a coupon is for is cheaper than the name brand even with the coupon. The only way coupons are worth the time and trouble is if a consumer is going to purchase the item on sale and then add the coupon. Coupons also tend to be in the form of buy two get one free for some items. If a consumer actually needs three of an item, then this might be a good deal.

Some items whose name brand is of better quality than the off brand counterpart will make coupons for those items worthwhile. In particular, name brand hygiene products or baby products are usually of a better quality than the off brand. In this case, clipping coupons makes sense. Whether they are worth the effort will depend on the individual consumer and the time available to spend looking for and clipping coupons.

Additionally, coupons are really a marketing ploy to get consumers to try different or new products. If a product is not something that you would normally purchase and you do it just because you have a coupon, then it is likely you haven't really saved yourself any money on your grocery bill. The cost of name brand goods are quite expensive.

Watching weekly sales flier is a much better way to save money. Some stores will match the sales of other stores in their marketing area. Savings from weekly sales usually tend to outweigh the savings of any coupons one could find.

In todays fast paced world, unless a person does not work outside the home, clipping coupons is just not worth the extra time and effort. Personally, I would rather spend that time with my family when I am not working than spend it on gathering coupons.
