To Tattoo or not to Tattoo that is the question. It was a definite yes for me fifteen years ago when supermodels started sporting them on their back. I thought it was cool. I chose a beautiful bird of paradise flower on my ankle to start off with and thought about it for a few years before going through with it. You definitely want to be clear about making this decision. Having a Winnie the Pooh stamped on your butt for life is something to think about.
For me, a tattoo is a beautiful painting to have on one's body. For some, it is a statement of attachment to something or someone. Gang tattoos are a very good example of this or simply having a tattoo dedicated to one's mother is another. For others, they may think it is cool and don't give much thought to it. For others, it is a lifestyle choice. It can also be an act of defiance or strength. I like it for the idea of beauty and art.
Some people like the pain of it. In many tribes, getting a tattoo is a form of transformation particularly when one enters adulthood. Some people just like pain. Some people feel the pain is transformational and proves they are strong and empowered. I don't particularly care for the pain but I love having a lovely piece of artwork on my body afterwords.
It has been said that once you get one tattoo you will want more. This is true in my experience. I have two so far and now I want a third. I love them. Do I want my body covered in them - no, I don't but I like them. The idea of becoming an old lady with tattoos actually appeals to me. What can I say?
