Avoiding the Dreaded Orange Spots Is Easier Than You Think!
Seven common causes of the dreaded orange spots:
1. Make sure you do not use canola or sunflower oil as it is to soft an oil.
2. Incomplete curing, make sure your soap is fully cured or the spots will appear.
3. High humidity and weather changes can effect curing.
4. Overexposure of cured soaps to air, keep them wrapped and sealed until use.
5. Superfatting.
6. Expired soft oils, check expiration dates.
7. Keep soaps away from contact with metal or rusty materials.
To avoid the orange spots try these techniques:
1. Do not use canola or sunflower oils
2. Make sure if you oil molds that you wipe off any oily film
3. Cure your soaps away from heat and light making sure they are dry to the touch
4. Store your sured soaps in Ziplock bags and then in airtight containers
5. Rosemary extract or vitamin E, try adding a little to your soap mixture
6. Do not us expired oils, you wouldn't in cooking a meal to eat!
Even if your soap has the orange spots don't despair. You can simply cut the orange spots off or leave them on and use the soap at home or you can grate and rebatch the soap for use in a kitchen mechanic scrub.
