Creating a successful home business online seems to be an obvious choice these days. But where does one start?

CHOOSING YOUR BUSINESS TYPE

Start by choosing the right type of online business for you.
Most of them fall into a these categories:

Affiliate Marketing
Sell or advertise someone else's products and get paid a commission.
You need to join at least one affiliate network and setup referral sites and/or advertise online.

Sponsored links / Google Adsense
Let others advertise on your site and get paid when people click on the ads.
If you have a site or blog you simply MUST add Google Adsense to your site. It's free and you can earn some great money.

Get paid to surf the web
Usually you install a custom software application which keeps track of your surfing habits and submits that data back to advertisers. You get paid for surfing and for referring other people to that service.

Paid Surveys
Give your opinion and get paid for surfing the web. This is extremely time consuming and will only create a small revenue.

Multilevel marketing
Similar to affiliate marketing, but in addition to selling someone else's product you recruit other resellers and get a share of their commissions. Often this requires promoting physical products, such as nutritional supplements or household products.

MARKETING YOUR BUSINESS
What all home businesses have in common is the fact that you need to research them thoroughly, find a niche you're passionate about and market them heavily; that's really where your success is defined. Obviously, no product will sell if no-one knows about it, whether they're tangible or digital.
