The perception of diesel vehicles in the US has been tarnished since the 1970's when the population identified them as being loud, smelly, and environmental disasters. Good news! Technology has come a long way, and the current gasoline mindset of the US will soon shift with increased awareness of the benefits of diesel.

Diesel is a byproduct of the production of gasoline. Therefore, diesel fuel should always be cheaper to produce than gasoline, saving the consumer money. Biodiesel fuel is on the horizon for mass production.

Diesel engines are more efficient (higher MPG averages), up to 4X longer lasting (due to the less refined fuel), and have more low-end torque in smaller powertrain configurations.

These are all huge advantages to the diesel cycle. Technology has advanced significantly to minimize the disadvantages.

As environmental concerns are increased, the advancing exhaust systems in diesel vehicles have reduced the emissions down to that of gasoline engines or less. In addition to emissions, calibration and sound packaging materials have been developed to minimize any additional noise from the diesel combustion. Diesel, your best option.
