How to minimize scars

We all have them. Be they the scar on your knee from a childhood game of chase, acne from the awkward adolescent years, or a surgical scar from later on in life; and we pretty much all want to get rid of them and if we can't do that we can at least endeavour reduce their appearance!

By simply walking into your local chemist, you will be flooded with various lotions and potions promising to do the job. Aside from that, everyone has their own theories on scarring so get chatting among friends and share their own personal experiences.

I have a myriad of scars, ranging from mosquito bites to drunken accidents and I have found my saviour in Bio-oil. With Bio-oil it is best to wait until the cut/wound/bite/affected area has healed to commence applying but to aid this I have found it useful to apply Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream. Bio-oil is an orange translucent liquid and only a few drops are needed per application so you will find that the supply should last for ages. Pure Vitamin E is also a recognised healing lotion for scars, but be warned that in a minority of cases it has been known to actually increase redness and swelling.

A lot of my scars were on my legs, and my favourite moisturiser is Palmer's Cocoa Butter. This body butter is well known to reduce scarring and is a favourite among pregnant women and those affected by stretch marks. I understand that not all of you will enjoy the smell of this so you will be thankful to know that it does come in an unscented version.

Moreover, healing can be promoted from the inside. By eating lots of raw green vegetables such as mange-tout, healing of the scar tissue is encouraged due to the active enzymes in the chlorophyll. In addition it is wise to eat, food such as oat, which contain Silica, which is believed to aid growth of the skin cells. To soak up extra Vitamin E, it might be useful to switch to using a wheat-germ bread, as the vitamin is readily found within the grain.

That is all the advice I have to give, so best of luck in beating them!
