trail of tears
I look behind me and see tracks of pain,
and footprints which have nothing to gain.
Walking along sands of heartbreak,
getting stronger with each step I take.
The journey's hard, but I tread along,
finding comfort in my heart's song.
Tears may fall, but they stay behind,
only as stains echoed in my mind.
There are good days that seem to keep me going,
as I lift my eyes to God who's all-knowing.
He knows every disappointment and sees every tear,
and reminds me that his love is the reason that I'm here.
Some days i find rest when i am standing still,
in hopes that I'll feel his love and tenderness so real.
I look behind me know that although I move fast,
I must remember that the trail of my tears is only an image of the past.
