What happens when the Baby Boomers retire

by Larry Clifton

Created on: July 15, 2007

As boomers begin retiring, the country's entitlement programs will buckle and enormous spending cuts will have to be implemented to keep Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare solvent. At the same time, the age at which a citizen may retire with benefits will be extended to marathon proportions. For a while, politicians will fund the increased costs with sharp increases in government borrowing. Before long, the national debt will increase to a point when international bond customers begin pulling back, causing our economy to slide into a major recession.

Ironically, the present Congress and a misguided president are trying to produce amnesty legislation to gift untold millions of illegal immigrants and their families with instant access to these same American entitlement programs. Until the new Congress was elected, these very candidates were assuring us that our Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security systems were about to go belly up. Meanwhile, no pertinent legislation has been passed since the Pelosi/Reid groups took over Congress. This is outrageous!

The boomers are going to continue aging, and in a few years, they will begin retiring in growing numbers. Young Americans must raise their political voices to a level that can be heard in the halls of Congress. Find out how your representative voted on the recent Amnesty legislation. If he or she voted to bloat our entitlement system with illegal immigrants to then detriment of our children and grandchildren, let them know how you feel about that in November, 2008.

The time has come for young Americans to speak out. It isn't compassion driving the Reid/Pelosi/Kennedy amnesty bill. They intend to buy future votes with Social Security checks drawn on a bankrupt system.

Retiring boomers are only part of the problem. This shamelessly corrupt congress is willing to sell out Americans. The first step to giving voting rights to illegals is to give them and their families amnesty and further access to America's entitlement systems. Once this is accomplished, it is a short walk to the voting booth.

If we lack the resolve to secure our borders, retiring boomers will be the least of our problems.
