What happens when the Baby Boomers retire

Baby Boomers are not the end all or the be all of American society. When examined, the Baby Boom generation contributed much to the fabric of our times and recent history. However, most of it comes up in negative numbers.

Consider the timeline of the Baby Boomer existence. Born into the 1950's, most Boomers grew up at the height of American prosperity. Never before and likely never again will an America exist where Dad has the only job, drives a big American car, and can purchase food, clothing, and entertainment while making the mortgage payment on that one paycheck.

It is no wonder that Boomer's grew up with a sense of entitlement. "We deserve a pension, 40 hour work week, weekends off, full medical dental and vacation" most boomer's cried during my generations formative years.

Boomer's also brought us hippiedom and protest. Although this is historically significant, history also shows us it was simply teen rebellion and not the beginning of social change. Jerry Rubin traded his radical politics for greed on Wall Street. Thus the Boomer Hippies became the 80's Yuppies, and a new era of greed and selfish behavior was born.

Earth day was invented by the Boomers. More teen angst- most Boomers spend their twighlight years in large SUV's and are kings and queens of consumption.

As Boomer jobs are slowly off shored to hungry third world nations where the 40 hour work week is performed in three shifts and then three more- the 80 hour work week reallity should sober even the most privileged Gen Xer into fear and action.

Truly, the only consideration regarding Boomer's retiring will be; How will we house and care for an aging generation of selfish greedy entitled prigs, whom flirted with social change, then reverted to classic bourgeois behavior? The answer is simple. Let them eat cake!
