What are the best and safest baby pacifiers?

When pregnant for the first time it can be truly exciting to go out and buy cute little baby things. One of the things that make you say "awe" are baby pacifiers. Before you do that, here are a few things you should keep in mind.

First of all, make sure to only buy one-piece pacifiers. Always check to make sure the nipple is firmly attached to the pacifier base. Otherwise, it would certainly be a choking hazard for your little one.

Secondly, after buying any pacifier always boil it to sterilize for the baby. That would be the ideal thing to do every day. However, as a newly busy mom, you may find that nearly impossible. So, always inspect to be sure the pacifier is clean and free of holes. You never want to give your baby a pacifier that has even a tiny hole in it. The sucking notion can pull in air and cause severe gas in your little one. That is never fun, for the baby or you!

So which nipple is the safest? You can choose between latex and silicon. Silicon in my opinion is the safest. Simply because is a harder material which makes it harder for the baby to puncture once teething. It will last longer through the many cleanings it will endure. However, the downfall of the silicon pacifier is that it isn't as soft to the baby's gums.

Another pacifier you may look at is an Orthodontic pacifier. They were originally designed to prevent any type of dental problems in the child later in life. However, a lot of baby's actually prefer the rounded pacifiers. Both have been proven to possibly cause some issues with the teeth.

A few features to remember when buying your baby's pacifiers are:
-The base of a pacifier should be at least 1.5 inches across.
-Vent holes (to help prevent rashes around the mouth due to moisture)
-Bright colors (so that they can easily be seen and found in a hurry!)

Note:
-Not all babies like pacifiers, and some are very picky. Figure out what your baby likes before going off and buying tons of them. (Yes, you will need tons!)
-Although pacifiers have been known to possibly cause dental problems in the child's future, you can help prevent this by taking it away after the baby's first year.

The safest pacifier is the one bought by a responsible parent with the right knowledge.
