Well done Kelly you are correct to point out the benefits of bats in our gardens and also to the environment as a whole. But I do feel that you overstate their benefit and tend to generalize to much. Some bats, in particular fruit bats in Australia are not only beneficial but can also be harmful and costly to growers. As example the Australian fruit bat costs many millions of dollars to growers protecting their crops and also carries some extremely dangerous pathogens. So much so that even wildlife carers have to wear protective gear else they could in the worst case die. Even some live stock, horses in particular can suffer disease and often death from bat carried pathogens. Bats flying over swimming pools, and in particular school playgrounds can leave problems as they defecate when they fly and disease is then transferred as people walk. All that said we must learn that everything has a place in this world but we must be aware of the dangers from seemingly innocent creatures often not respected for the enormous benefits that they bring.
