A firm stand needs to be taken with anyone who has a DUI conviction. Period. Nicole Richie, her buddy Paris, anyone who drinks while driving. The issue isn't who it is, the issue is what law has been broken, and how many lives can be saved.

Driving while intoxicated is a serious crime. While many people may view it as part of the party life, partying being more important, people die. It's not about a ticket, or jail time. It's saving a life.

I have a friend who was in a drunk driving accident. He was a passenger with someone who was driving drunk and thought nothing of getting in the car with him. After the accident he was quadriplegic. Two vertebrae snapped in his neck. He now still suffers extreme pain he must manage, but is able to walk. He is unable to sleep well due to pain and the injuries sustained will be with him for the rest of his life.

He later found out the person who was driving had already been in an DUI accident, and still had his license. That was over 20 years ago.

Laws have changed since then. The law is harder on people who drink and drive. Hopefully some lives have been saved because of this. We don't know who's lives we have saved when we decide to not drive intoxicated, but we will definitely know who's lives we have taken.

Go to jail Nicole. Do not pass go and do not collect two hundred dollars.
