Emo culture: It is not something to worry about

"Emo" has spread across my school and town over the past year. No one knew what it was until bands and magazines started the "Emo" genre. Now, people in our school are saying things like, "Look, I'm cutting myself. I'm SO emo." I feel that Emo IS something to be concerened about. People in my school are trying to be anything but themselves. People I have known since kingdergarten are suddenly smoking and cutting themselves. They are the ones that ruined the emo image. Now don't get me wrong, I am all for expressing yourself through make-up and clothing but the sterotype that you have to be depressed and hate the world to be emo. Its disgusting. Now if your child, friend, sister, or whatever has started being "emo". My suggestion is to talk to them first, tell them that if they don't want to be depressed but, they want to be known as a 'emo'. Its NOT worth it. Being yourself is better in the long run than being popular. Thanks for your time.
