As a hopeless designer jean addict, I have found many ways to get my fix without breaking the bank. First of all, scour sales at your favorite stores. Is there a shop you pass by every day and gaze longingly at the window displays? Well, the sale is your chance to score some sweet deals. I have found several pair of designer jeans for deep discounts at local independent boutiques (diesel for $40, seven for $50, Lucky for $40, to name a few).
Secondly, the internet offers many options for the budget-conscious yet fashion-savvy shopper. Some of my favorite websites are activeendeavors.com, shopbop.com, revolveclothing.com, and shopepic.com. While their regular priced merchandise can be spendy, they are almost always having sales that go up to 70% off. I have scored James jeans for $75 and Joe's jeans for $100. (Some of you may not see that as a deal, but they were originally $165!) The added bonus to these websites is that they offer many ideas for putting outfits together and a good general education in brands and trends. If you sign up for their mailing lists, you may get additional coupons and secret sales.
A third, perhaps surprising, place to find designer jeans on the cheap is at warehouse-type stores. I once found a pair of Seven jeans at Costco for $80! (My husband still thought that was ridiculous, but what does he know?) So keep your eyes open, you never know where you might find a deal.
Finally, a word about value. Sure, you can buy cheap jeans at Old Navy or Target, but if you don't really love them, you probably won't wear them, and if you don't wear them, what did you just spend your money on? Sometimes it's worth it to splurge on something you're going to wear every other day, all summer long (i.e. my Paige walking shorts cost me $160, but I've probably worn them 80 times in a year, making the cost $2 per wear... not too shabby).
