Record collecting: Who is keeping vinyl alive and why?

by Babalu

I was not alive during the era of 8-track and vinyl records and now that I am grown up, I have a certain appreciation for the magic that the music industry has offered to the millions of music lovers across the globe. Buying your favorite record from your favorite artist and being able to showcase that to others and to grow a collection is a great feeling. I collect cd's and I can imagine that the feeling is identical. What isn't identical is the feeling you have when you realize that all of these years later you can dig through the dusty box in your storage room and discover those priceless memories stored away on a plastic circle.

In this day and age, cd's have almost become a thing of the past and cd's, well to me at least, are still an amazing thing, and it feels as is there is going to be a day when they are going to become obsolete, like the vinyl records.

These days you will undoubtfully be buying cd's to satisfy your need for music and will think back to when the record store in fact was the real deal. A vinyl record in todays world, to most, seems like a foolish thing to hang onto, especially to the youth of America. Suppose records were the thing to have when you were the youth and you wish that all these years you taken care of those things better than you did, or wish you had at least hung on to them.

There are certain people that deal with these priceless circles of joy, even though when comparing sound quality to today's music, it is a no contest. Finding and obtaining vinyl records has become a hobby for alot of people. With access to the internet and millions of others like you searching for those lost minutes of sanctity, it has become ever soo easy to build up the collection you had as a youngster, but why after all of these years?

Myself, imagine down the road what it will be like in the next generation of selling albums, will it all be strickly over the internet and downloads? Will compact discs still be used? Questions like these have strengthened my desire for detailing my cd collection and the assumtion that I am going to hang on to them until the end of time. Which is what can be said of those whom are looking for those lost vinyl records they once had. You hang onto things like that because they represent important times in your life and you will, at some point, want to be reminded of that later on, and what better way than the original copy that the soundwaves were first heard.

Refilling your life with those moments is why I believe vinyl is still being mentioned let alone being remarketed across the globe from person to person. So if your not the only one that is trying to get a look back at those defining moments of your life, imagine what that feeling would be like if you were the one showcasing your countless record collection to a man that has not seen or heard a certain record in decades, the stories that could be shared of those glorious times.

Well all wish at sometime that we could go back in time and relive the greatest years of our lives, since we are unable to do that, what is a better way than giving your favorite record another spin.
