I think human beings should be banned from driving automobiles seeing how they are such dangerous devices always causing loss of life and property. Whatever the statistics say about the car accidents, I bet none of them would happen if the person was not driving a car.
Why are you laughing? Don't you agree that cars are quite dangerous and a serious hazard to life and limb if not handled properly? A moron driving a car within all rules and regulations and still put his/her life at risk alongwith many others who happen to be in range. And you can't deny the fact that there are a lot of morons out on the road, behind the wheel and not all of them have a mobile phone to their ear.
Mobile phone is not the only distraction in a car. Ever seen a person drive with a big map open on the wheel? Is that dangerous? Yes. Is it banned? No! Under consideration for ban? No! Why?
I have seen people, eat, drink coffee, drink soft drinks, brush their hair, look at their appointment book, fiddle with the radio, bend way down to pick up something and do many other obviously stupid and extremely distracting thing while driving a car. Not one of them banned! How far are you going to go in this banning effort?
Why didn't they ban it when the car companies were putting stereos in cars? Do you think changing a CD is less distracting then talking on the phone? Then why is it not banned?
Mobile one is the latest not the only distraction to driving. If it has to be banned, all other distractions should be banned up to and including looking at the passenger while driving.
It is the not the responsibility of the government to see that a person driving a vehicle does so responsibly, the responsibility lies very much with the person. I am absolutely not in favour of banning things "for their own good".
Mobile phone was made to be mobile. It is possible to pick up a call when stationary but that's not what it was made for. Talking on the phone while driving is taking an extra risk, but whether that risk is worth taking in terms or road conditions, traffic conditions and nature of call expected, that's up to the individual to decide not the government.
Having said all that, it is still a good idea to use a handsfree kit while driving and to keep the phone calls to a minimum. After all it's your life!
