When you receive a car seat for the first time, there is a manual included. It can be inside the box or already in place on the back or bottom of the car seat. Having an experienced individual aiding you would be an idea as well.
First: Check the weight limit on the car seat. If your baby is over or under the limit, you need to take the car seat back and replace it. Yes, baby's grow fast, but we want to keep them safe.
Second: There are holes to slide the straps through according to your baby's weight and size. Sometimes, one will think adding a blanket will help. Your baby could still fall out if not fastened in snug and tight.
Third: Once having the straps in place. Take the baby out and place the seat in the car.
There are designated areas to place the seat belt on a car seat. Just putting it over the top of the baby and seat is not secure. The seat can slide, rock, or fall out from the seat belt.
Also, many seat belts are designed to Lock in place once buckled. You can do this by gently pulling down and releasing the belt. Then, check to see if it is locked by pulling again. If it is secure, it will not move. Shake the seat to see if it will not slide or move forward.
Once the seat is in place, you may place the baby back inside. Just because the seat itself is secure, does not mean a baby should be left unfastened inside the seat.
Place the baby's arms through the belt and fasten the chest plate together. Then, fasten the buckle in the middle.
Keep this in mind. Keep your child safe. Common sense in mind.
