ABSOLUTELY schools should lead the way when it comes to enlightening children about homosexuality.
I was inducted into the world of 'sex' during a talk given in my primary school when I was 11 (most of my peers were only 10), and to this day I have never had 'the talk' with my parents. They know that I know about it, and I'm fairly certain that they know about it. I, personally, have never felt the need to have them sit me down and tell me what goes where.

As regards homosexuality, when I was growing up there really didn't seem to be as much fuss about it as there is now (though I'm sure there was, but I was never aware of it). However, if there had been the level of awareness about homosexuality when I was young, I wouldn't have wanted my parents telling me where 'Mr X' puts it in 'Mr Y', or what 'Mrs X' puts in 'Mrs Y'!
Moreover, homosexuality is a real issue, there are people in the world who are born with a greater attraction to people of the same sex, and there are people who (almost) grow into having relationships with the same sex. However, some people in the world would have everyone believe that homosexuality is some form of disease, and that people who 'suffer' from it should be cured or punished.
The best thing about teaching a class about homosexuality in school is that there should be NO bias either way (right or wrong) as far as homosexuality is concerned, where a parent may have a strong feeling one way or the other, and might not be afraid to bully their kids into thinking like them. This way, the sad problem of 'coming out' to your friends and family might also be lessened slightly.
People who have sat beside their peers while they learned about homosexuality together may be encouraged to stand up and tell people that they are gay, and those people will be able to respond kindly, and with knowledge of what this actually means.
Homosexuals who have been told by their parents that 'being gay is wrong' (or, even worse, that 'homosexuals go to hell') will be terrified of coming out to their parents, and will live in fear of the day that they find out.
This has already ruined hundreds of lives, I don't believe that we should let it ruin any more.
