Since i work for a major hotel chain, i decided, that by maybe sharring a little bit of knowlegde, people could save a lot of pain. There are just somethings, that i have picked up as common sence in the last year or so, that would normally seem like something that you would think of. First of all i would like to adress all of you who seem to think that iholets, expedia, orbitz, travelocity.. any of you who use these wholesalers, pay close attention! First if you can, dont use them!, now i understand that all of you are looking for the best deals.. its not like vacations are cheap. How they work, is they buy hotel rooms from the hotel, and as such, they have a different pool of rooms the the hotel would. Now when booking throught them, make special attention to the terms and conditions, that little thing that they get you to click on.. saying that you read the terms and conditions,... read it. the thing with sites like the ones listed above, if often, once you book,l your credit card will be charged immediately, and if you chose to cancel .. your not getting any of it back. so make sure your goign! Now in a few instances, if the hotel over books, it will leave you with out a room, even if youve already booked. What these sites will do is rebook you at a nearby in, and not tell you anything about it. So when your done making your reservation, calling the hotels reservation department, to check if your in their system would be smart. If you are; then your fine, but if they tell you that "the hotel and travelocity dont use the same system" it means you might not have a room when you arrive, if this happens call the hotel directly.
Now for those of you who prefer to deal directly with the hotel, for those of you who dont know, christmas is high season, and summer is low. So if your calling around dec-feb, dont expect to have to much of a deal. now when you call the hotel, if its a 1800, or 1866 number, then your not calling the hotel, your probably calling a call center, that takes the reservations, probably in canada, or india. so if you want really descriptive answer about the area, then just ask the reservations people to give you the number for front desk, or to transfer you. Hopefully this helps someone in some way understand a little more about how the hotels work, and other questions, let me know, if im not sure, ill find out for you!
