Roy Raymond a member of the alumni of Stanford Graduate School of Business was awkward and embarrassed whenever he would try to purchase lingerie for his wife in a public department store. The first Victoria Secret store was opened in Stanford Shopping Center. The store grew at a rapid rate and soon three more stores were built. The design of Victoria's Secret was supposed to create a comfortable environment that would allow men to feel at home while purchasing lingerie. The original stores had wood panelled walls, a friendly sales staff and Victorian details.

Instead of having plain racks of panties and bras in various sizes there were single styles that were paired together. Some of the merchandise was mounted in frames on the wall. Customers could easily pick out what underwear to purchase and then the sales staff would help choose the right size. The different sizes were kept in the back of the store. Roy Raymond experienced five years of success with the store before The Limited bought Victoria's Secret.

Victoria's Secret has gained notoriety because of the famous supermodels that are used in the advertising campaigns. Some of the most popular models include Tyra Banks, Alessandra Ambrosio, Heidi Klum, Ana Beatriz Barros and Adriana Lima. The Victoria's Secrets Angels are spokespersons for the advertising campaigns.

Every year the lingerie company launches a broadcast of the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. The first year the show was launched an estimated 1.5 million viewers watched. The show has evolved into a lavish event that shows off costumed lingerie, set design and music. Hundreds of celebrities and other entertainers perform in the show each year.

Victoria's Secret lingerie is not only sexy but elegant in appearance. A woman can feel beautiful and feminine in any piece of Victoria's Secret lingerie. There are hundreds of Victoria's Secret stores located throughout the United States. Also, the Victoria's Secret lingerie mail order catalog allows women or men to shop from the privacy of their own home. Victoria's Secret lingerie is now famous around the globe.
