Some businesses can be started with very little financial outlay, others may require a lot. Starting a business on a low budget has it's difficulties, and benefits. One difficulty is that with little finance, you are restricted on what equipment and supplies you can hold. On the other hand, should the business fail, you wont loose so much.
Talking about business failure when your planning a business, cannot be ignored because it is a fact of life that some new businesses fail. Starting a new business with little capital may be desirable than borrowing finance right up to the limit, should it be available.
One of the most valuable assets a business can have is a reputation for honesty and fairness. Working hard to achieve that will definitely pay-off long term. No one likes, or trusts a con-man. Obviously your charges must be competative, but never sell yourself short.
The most important consideration a new business starting out on a low budget will be: can the business support me and my employees. Have you the resources to keep you going until the business has become known and is making income. Think hard about the first few months while the business is developing. You may well be ready to struggle for a few months, but what about your family dependants, can you expect them to as well.
Internet businesses require little of no outlay. Depending on what sort of Internet business you plan, if you are selling goods, these can be purchased from your supplier, as the orders come in. Some suppliers may require a large initial order, to be able to give a large discount. Your time would be well spent trying to persuade suppliers to allow you as good a discount as possible until trade builds up.
If you plan to sell second hand cars for example, you will need a good stock of cars on show. Probably if you plan to sell cars, you are already experienced in the motor trade, and will know some of the suppliers you plan to use. Maybe it is worth a visit to them, to explain your situation, and see if they will allow you cars on loan, until sold. Someone who is honest and trustworthy is more likely to be helped, than someone who is considered a risk. If you are seen to be operating a fair and honest business, help may be out there somewhere, if you look for it hard enough.
Should your business be a first start up one, where no one knows you, as an electrician or plumber for example, your largest cost to a customer may be your labour. To begin with, should you require spare parts for a customers appliance, you could get an advance payment from the customer, to allow you to go and purchase what you need. As a trader you will get a discount, which long term goes towards your operating budget.
Office cleaning businesses are getting more common these days, and through hard work a good living can be made. Machinery like polishers and scrubbers may be needed as they can cover more ground than a person can, on their own. In order to buy machinery, you could scan the newspapers and the Internet. You must consider whether you want new machines or a used ones. If you are just starting up on a low budget, an older used machine may serve you as well as anew one, but without the expense.
