B.G. and I are now painting our eyes with black eyeshadow, dressed like Johnny Cash and moving to the Germany. Where we will not only explore this "Goth" whatever, but we will dig to its very foundation!
The Gargoyles tell us all about the Gothic-schisms. Someone somewhere thought it was a nice color, black, and it suited them well- never mind the pale skin, it is usually overcast in Germany. Working in the coal mine became too much, we needed a mode of expression to show how the world views the filth that is the expendable working class hero. Fashion swept the nations of self degradation, an impulse became the urge! Old folks can't understand, it isn't do as you are told? Do the weak just justify the censorship? Or can I recognize through the word of your God's that both light and dark are embedded in the "soul". Reminding us of Yin-yang.
Who goes to the church to point their finger at the original sinners? All the colors, and lack there of, were given to us to use. In Asia white is the color of death. In the bibles, death rides a white horse. Only the third world of mind states associates the color black with satan worshiping. And santa wears red, rearrange the letters in his name, after he sneaks down your chimney.
Is this really even about personal style, or do we just want to take our hatred out on the "goth", who and whatever they may be? Why should we all be the same? Little boxes? It is about personal like and dislike. If the shoe fits, wear it.
And as for "Gothic", yeah Germany was all right. The architecture was fabulous, the churches and state buildings really remind me of how stoic Europe can be. We now see how a mood can influence a stereotypical opinion. And lack of education can lead to false accusations.
