As a mother of four, I think the "onesie" is the best invention since sliced bread (okay, maybe that is a bit dramatic)! Though the term Onesie is legally owned by Gerber products, a onesie is a bodysuit. It is a t-shirt that is elongated, and snaps/buttons at the crotch to cover baby's diaper. They normally are made of cotton, and are short sleeved, but there are longer sleeved varieties. The popularity of these little outfits are as following:
EASY DRESSING! - Dressing a baby is like putting lipstick on a moving bull. Most of the onesies have little flaps on the shoulders to ease over babies head. Then one little snap at the crotch and baby is dressed! Onesies can be used for home "play time" or can be dressed up with a pair of pants as a more refined bottom. And it never comes untucked! The simplicity in design makes it seem like baby is wearing nothing when truly he is fully dressed. Baby can be changed easily too, as a few unsnaps and baby's diaper area is ready to be treated! Then dress him back up again in a "snap" (hehe). When Junior starts to crawl, that onesie isn't going to ride up and expose his sensitive tummy to the floor, either.
COST! - Onesies are cheap! You can buy a whole pack (3- 5) for under ten bucks! Some of them are different colors and have designs as well. Onesies are inexpensive to take care of, as well. Throw them in the washing machine with some warm water, and gentle detergent, and soon baby is ready to wear one again.
INDIVUALITY! - Because onesies are a baby's answer to the t-shirt, you can put all kinds of sayings on them. Some famous ones are "Spit Happens", "Daddy's Girl" and "Diva in Training". You can also spend some more money and get them personalized with your child's name on them. Why, they even sell sports onesies.
