Walking for inspiration

by M Edman

It's not just walking.

Near everyone would agree that walking is an excellent way to gain inspiration, and I also wholeheartedly agree with this. Yet there is so much more.

For instance, ask yourself why is it that you are walking? Is it just out of habit? Or for exercise; pleasure; the company of others; to observe God's creation; to people watch; to think or meditate; to try to forget something; to try to remember something: to mend a broken heart?

In each of these circumstances . . . and yes, there are no doubt others that you yourself will think of . . . in each of these circumstances, inspiration can whiz into our minds quicker than a hummingbird.

Sometimes though, like writer's block, we receive not an ounce of guidance.

And then there are those other times . . . those times when we are least expecting anything . . . that new thoughts, new ideas, and new explanations and solutions suddenly pop into our head. What joy and peace of mind we instantly feel. Our steps perk up, our breathing quickens, our eyes lift from the pavement to the heavens, and we are relieved physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Inspiration is truly a healing grace, a forgiving mercy, and a powerful motivator.

So if you are one of us who "walks" for inspiration, just keep in mind how very much more is really going on. Be prepared for pleasant surprises on your walk!
