Search engines: Viable alternatives to Google

look great, but, again, you aren't marrying the thing. It's just a search engine.

The thing about search engines is that each search engine has its own database of webpages to pull results from. Unfortunately for the regular person, there isn't a whole lot of overlap between the databases. According to some studies done, only about 1% is overlap. However, that is just talking about the major search engines like Yahoo, Google, and MSN.

Also, every search engine has flaws. Google tends to bring up more shopping sites as top results when an online product is searched for. There are more. Of course, anything is going to have flaws in it if you look hard enough.

When you are looking for a search engine, take into account everything. If you want e-mail with your searches, make sure that the e-mail service is up to snuff. Some search engines keep track of search history and some don't. Make sure of what you want. If you need a map, can you get it? Do you want to have to search around for another site to get a map, or the current news, or the newest videos? Know what you want before looking and you will save a lot of time.

This article is just to make you think. It was not written to berrate or uplift any particular search engine. It was not meant to make you quit using your favorite search engine. It was just to provide facts to the masses.
