I completely agree with the legalization of Marijuana. I think Marijuana should be legalized starting NOW. Let me say first of all, I don't want it legalized just because I'm some junkie who is sick of running from the cops. I'm not a junkie and I love cops (in fact, I wanted to be one). I think that Marijuana should be legalized because it would not only SAVE the governments money, it would EARN them money. They would no longer be wasting their money on this "drug war" and they would be gaining money by taxing the sale of it.

Now, this drug war that the US government is in is losing the government AND the citizens money. When US officials make a MAJOR drug bust, the price for the drug goes up. Those who are especially close to Marijuana then take to dramatic means to get money. What often happens is that there are more thefts, more attacks, and more wounded and dead people BECAUSE OF the drug bust. This is no good.

However, if the government were to make it legal, they could tax it just like they do tobacco and alcohol. Not only that, but the Marijuana could be standardized, tested, and kept pure. On the street, you can never be sure what kind of weed you are exactly getting. You might have asked for high grade, but end up with low grade, or you might end up getting laced weed (which can cause death). Since Marijuana is illegal, it is also illegal and unethical to test in a laboratory setting. Since this is true, no one knows what the true concerns and benefits are of smoking or ingesting Marijuana.

So, I say we legalize it. It's hurting all of us more than it's helping any of us.
