One mile equals about 2,000 steps. Doing this all at once may take you 15-20 minutes.
Walking one mile burns approximately 100 calories. Experts say one pound equals 3,500 calories. Do this 35 times, and you might lose a pound (assuming you do not change your eating habits at all.) In other words, in just over a month, you could lose a pound. You could lose 12 pounds in about a year. Just by walking!
Many people love to walk daily with a friend, four-legged or otherwise. A mile-long stroll may be nothing to these folks.
How about the rest of us? What simple steps could you take to add 2,000 paces to your daily mileage, and perhaps years to your lifespan?
WALK 25 STEPS
Every time you park your car, walk all the way around it once. With the average sedan, this will take 25 steps. If you are a vehicle-lover, you can examine your car for scratches and dings as you exercise!
WALK 30 STEPS
Avoid the elevator, and take the stairs. A single flight of stairs contains 15 steps. One trip up and down again covers 30 steps. (Stair climbing burns even more calories than regular walking, so you might consider this a turbo activity.)
WALK 50 STEPS
We rarely wash our hands enough. Why not walk to the powder room a few more times a day, to burn calories and practice personal hygiene at the same time? Suppose your lavatory is just down the hall. You might add 50 steps on a single round trip!
WALK 60 STEPS
Chivalry is not dead! Walk your date, or even your friend, to the door after an evening out. The average front walk is 30 feet. Why not add those 60 paces, and say goodnight the old-fashioned way?
WALK 90 STEPS
Offer to clear the table after dinner. If your dining area is just 15 paces, and you can clear the dishes in three trips, you can log 90 steps to your daily total.

Lose the remote control. Instead of sitting on the couch and flipping channels, walk to the TV to make a switch. If your family room is just ten feet across, you will add at least 15 steps each time you change the channel! Suppose you do this six times. That makes 90 more steps!
WALK 100 STEPS
Go get the mail! The average driveway is 50 feet long. If you walk to the mailbox each day, instead of simply pulling up and rolling down the car window, you will add 100 paces to your total.
