"Heya boss, I just wanted to let you know that Kristina was 15 minutes late today. This is the third time this week. You won't see it on her time card though, because John has been punching her in whenever she's late. I thought you should know."

Introducing... the TATTLETALE! The person that no one likes for one reason: They are quick to tell your boss the problem, but never tell the details of the story. Maybe the boss would have been a little more lenient with the punishment if he had known that Kristina's baby had come down with the flu, or that her father just passed away, or that she got caught in traffic and her car broke down. Tattletales aren't generally interested in those things. They know one thing, they have some news that they have to tell somebody, and that somebody is more often than not your boss.

"Hey, did you hear that John's been punching Kristina in? Yeah, she's been late a lot! I bet there's something going on at home, because she's not really like this. I'll let you know when I get the juicy scoop."

Okay, so it's a little annoying that the gossip is meddling into something that is none of their business. But there's one thing you can always say about a gossiper: they do their damn research. So all in all, gossiping coworkers can annoy, but tattletales can destroy (see how I made that rhyme? Yeah, I have skills). The fact of the matter is this:

People want to hear gossip. People don't want to get told on. Do the research! And to all those tattle-tales in the world, enjoy eating your lunch alone in the corner of the cafeteria while the rest of your coworkers spoon-fling dried peas at your face.
