Engagement: Reactions of those around you

Oh, goodie, it's THAT time of year.again. (Part II)

I am at that age where everyone is getting engaged, getting married (or re-married) and having kids- granted, not necessarily in that sequence.

I have no problems with any those things (or in what order it is being done) but the sheer torture it is for me is great.

The ENGAGEMENT

Everyone has that one strange friend that craves marriage. I find this true for both women and men. Neither is complete until that ring is put on a finger.

This is only torturous if you have the whiney, crying female that is practically demanding marriage of her partner (who is usually SO not into it)

But there is the flipside- the guy that HAS to get married- or he thinks he will die. I am still not sure what his reasoning is, but he wants marriage as bad as a 10 year wants to break a window. It's ingrained in him. Usually, when the guy wants it, it's the chick that isn't so into the idea of marriage.

Its odd, why the marriage-minded man doesn't find the marriage-minded woman is a mystery to me. It would be less painful for those surrounding them. You would think that they would attract each other, but they don't, they repel each other. I think this is all just a game to see who can irritate me more.

I am being dragged to pick out an engagement ring for one of my friends this weekend. Lord only knows how many times I have made this trek. (Well, actually, I do know. Its 5 5 flippin' times that I have been taken form store to store, one city to the next, been pestered and forced to help picked out "the" ring.)

I really don't mind the shopping for the ring. I have impeccable tasteplus I get to act like a princess and try on jewelry all day. And I get the added bonus of pretending I don't know what the budget is and try to push for the 36ct platinum ring. I love to watch the sweat roll off a guys brow.

What does bother me is that I am shopping with some guy that is completely clueless.

WHY decide you want to marry someone and buy a ring without doing some research is beyond meyou would think they would have a plan of some sort.any kind of plan! But no, they have no idea how much they can spend, how big of diamond they want (if she even wants a diamond!), the grades of diamond there are, the different types of cuts, white, gold or platinum. In most cases they don't bother enough to figure out their future wife enough to know what ring would fit her. ARGH!

So, in comes the friend.
