I think that governments should allow decorations for religious holidays in public squares. For the simple fact remains, the United States was founded on the very idea of religious freedom. That's why people came here in the first place... To escape religious persecution, and to be able to have the right to worship in the religion that they see fit, without being persecuted!

For example, while Christmas is meant to be celebrated because of the birth of Christ, how many people actually remember that during the holidays? Even with Nativity Scene displays... Most people ignore the Christ factor, and it just becomes another secular, over-advertised and materialistic holiday with no meaning other than the displays of lights, Santa Clause, and the focus on gifts!

But I digress, America was founded on the idea of Religious Freedom, tolerance and freedom of speech. Our government is to be comprised of "We The People". SO, in this household at least, "We The People" choose to celebrate Christmas and other Christian holidays, and have no ill will and mean no slight towards anyone of any other religion that celebrates THEIR religious holidays and displays their decorations.

Why should our governments and government offices feel/say/do any differently? That what this country was based on! They should definitely permit decorations for religious holidays in public squares and any other public places... Freedom is the keyword here! Freedom of religion is the point.
