Each flame is an acrobat
leaping and lapping
lunging and flapping
a tongue of quick red
licking and crackling
tasting and clacking
Together forming fire
a door to desire
or drowsy dreaming
while red heat plays upon our faces
A tool and a toy
consuming fuel
while fueling joy
And something to be feared
that gives and takes
equally without warning
never without warming
hearts, hearths, homes
and humanity
