One of the many benefits of living in the United States is that anyone has the potential to run their own business. While many have succeeded, there are many more who have tried and failed. So what makes a successful entrepreneur? What characteristics do they have that help them achieve where others do not?

The first characteristic is vision. Successful entrepreneurs not only sees opportunities, they also see how they can capitalize on those opportunities. It's been said that the secret to success is to see a need and fill it. A successful entrepreneur sees the need, and sees how a profit can be made filling that need.

Along with vision comes an ability to anticipate. This helps the entrepreneur to see what new opportunities may be available to them in the future, but it also helps them to see potential pitfalls. By knowing what potential dangers lie ahead, they can avoid them, or at least minimize their affects.

There is also a need for creativity. What separates successful entrepreneurs from everyone else is their ability to, well, separate themselves from everyone else. They have the ability to position their business or products in a unique way to successfully differentiate themselves from the competition. This ability is critical in attracting new business.

Successful entrepreneurs have a tolerance for risk. Not everyone is comfortable losing the security of a steady paycheck. Entrepreneurs understand the risk of failure, but the potential of greater gains outweighs that risk.

They also have a belief in themselves and their idea that carries them through difficult times. While some lose hope and give up on their ideas, successful entrepreneurs continue to believe in the idea, and in their ability to make it a reality.

Every business in this country started as an idea by someone with the courage and vision to make their dream a reality. The great thing is, so can you.
