Living With Restless Legs Syndrome;
I have dealt with RLS since I was around six years of age. I can well remember the times of sitting in church, legs twitching and a feeling of something crawling over the surface of my skin.I would try and listen to the sermon all the while taking quick peeks at the clock wanting to get out of the pew and move my lower extremities. An hour of this and I was more than ready to leave!
RLS has managed to make my quiet time or my sleeping time utterly miserable unless I take prescribed drugs from my Doctor that helps alleviate the symptoms. Thy only keep working for a limited amount of time, then they have a tendency to level off and your back at square one. Usually that is when I have to call my Doctor to either up the med or change to something else.
Walking does not seem to curb the RLS feeling at all, I can still feel the need to twitch or a burning sensation in my lower extremities. The only thing I have found that helps is taking med for it. So to get any relief at all, I stay up on any new ones that can help me.
There is some research being done on RLS and I have signed up for a few clinical trials that are being done across the United States. Hopefully in the near future more money will be allocated for this syndrome.
