The United States removed the Iraqi government for good reason, and owes it too the world to stay in Iraq until a peaceful government can protect itself. This is a classic good versus evil confrontation. If America chooses to let evil reign over the people of Iraq it and other peaceful free nations will pay for it dearly in the years to come.
There are two stories going on in Iraq. The first one is that portrayed on American Television, newspapers, magazines and even web sites. It says the insurgents are winning, and that America needs to quit or has lost. This story is backed up with shows of violence by insurgent groups. These groups are the "evil" for which I spoke of and will not deliver peace to the people of Iraq. They are people filled with hate, rage and they can not be reasoned with to avoid violence. These people reject a peaceful solution through normal politics because they want to rule with fear, intimidation and they can not win the popular support of the people.
The other story in Iraq is that we are winning. American forces have these people filled with hate on the run. Most of Iraq lives in relative peace and that violence is isolated in troubled areas. America has immunized 10 million Iraqi's against polio, we have built more schools, hospitals and clinics in Iraq then anywhere else on the planet. Even religious groups that don't like or agree with America are taking up arms against Al Queda forces.
There are people in America, sadly, that want us to lose so they gain politically. The vast majority are not in this group and simply believe we are losing because that is all they see in the press. That negative impression is fueled by those who want us to lose for political gain. It is sad and it needs to stop. There is far more to be gained by winning in Iraq then by losing.
America remains in Japan, Germany, and South Korea today decades after our battles there. There is no reason to assume we won't be in Iraq 50 years from now, but that peace can be delivered there in a reasonable period of time. War is not easy, and we need to let the soldiers conduct that war as necessary to win.
